Community Transport

Community360 has a proven track record of providing transport services in both Colchester and Maldon. The scheme has recently merged with Chelmsford Community Transport, bringing Colchester, Maldon and Chelmsford Transport Services together to address inaccessibility to services, activities and facilities.

The Scheme improves the transport provision for people in the local community who have limited mobility (be it through permanent or temporary disablement, illness, accident or age) or who would otherwise be socially excluded or geographically isolated.

Our scheme provides a
door to door service

Our Service really helps the community

Our Community Transport scheme provides a door-to-door service to and from doctor, dental & hospital appointments, medical centres, shopping centres, and encourages visits to therapy, friends and relatives.  In addition, we offer a range of hugely popular excursions offering the opportunity for members to meet new people, enjoy good health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation.

We are a vital link in our community and offer a number of options for travel to both individuals and groups as follows:

  • Social Car & Book-a-Ride
  • Group Hire
  • Excursion Trips (not currently available in Chelmsford)

We tailor our services to meet the needs of our members providing the following benefits:

  • Affordable, door to door transport
  • A driver who is friendly and caring
  • The provision of transport even if you live in a rural area
  • Meeting new people and get a real feeling of social togetherness on our excursions (not currently available in Chelmsford)
  • Respite for carers and families

Some people have really
enjoyed using our service

Life would be unthinkable without the support of Community360. We can go out, particularly to doctor and hospital appointments, without having to worry about getting there and back. We would be paying double in taxi fares which is extortionate. We also appreciate the social outings which are on offer. We would be lost without C360 and life would be very difficult.
The volunteer drivers were excellent and got us there and back safely through very difficult traffic conditions. We were very grateful for their help and company.
Without the excursions I wouldn’t get to go out. It is nice catching up with everyone once a week and having a meal out.
Thank you to all the drivers and staff at Community360 for the great services they provided so kindly.

Group Minibus Hire

We hire out our minibuses to not-for-profit organisations, social groups, schools, clubs and local councils. This service is not currently available in Chelmsford.

Our buses

Colchester and Maldon have a fleet of 13 accessible minibuses. The largest is a 16-seater whilst the smallest is a specialised wheelchair accessible vehicle and seats 4.

All are wheelchair accessible, with fully operating tail lifts and side steps.

Wheelchair configuration

A general rule of thumb is that each wheelchair or scooter that a person cannot transfer from and then fold up, requires the removal of 4 seats. Please call the office for an exact configuration.

Cost

£30.00 per year subject to completion of our membership form and agreement to our T&Cs.

  • 0 – 33 Miles – £40.00 (Fuel Included)
  • 34 – 100 miles – £1.20 per mile (Fuel Included)

For longer trips or to discuss a prolonged hire requirement, please contact the office for a bespoke quotation.

Drivers

We have an outstanding team of volunteer drivers, all of whom are DBS checked, trained in the handling of wheelchairs and have been through a thorough minibus drivers’ training course.

However, due to rising need in our community and the nature of volunteering, there may be cases when we do not have a volunteer available. In this instance it’s often worth a group’s time to provide their own driver. If you have someone who is over 21 years of age and with 2 years driving experience, and volunteering for your organisation or have a D1 on their licence, we can arrange MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training. The course is one day and costs £85.00. Please call the office for further details.

Is my Transport guaranteed?

All our trips are subject to vehicle and driver availability. Vehicles are allocated on a first come-first-serve basis, and we ask that you give us at least 5 days’ notice.

If you cannot access a car at all then we will provide transport using one our fully accessible minibuses.

We can carry various equipment but please note that electric wheelchairs and scooters require a risk assessment. To arrange this please call the office.

Is my Transport guaranteed?

We are able to function due to an outstanding team of volunteers who regularly give up their time to transport our members across our districts.

However, due to rising need in our community and the nature of volunteering, there may be times when we simply cannot help. We’ll always do our best and give you plenty of notice in advance, but all trips are subject to availability.
