In June Essex County Council will be launching a pilot digital triaging tool, the first of its kind in Essex. Research shows that people who do not yet have the access, skills, and confidence to use the internet are more likely to face inequalities. On average, households that do not use the internet could also spend £286 more a month.
The tool is a local version of the Local Government Association backed Digital Inclusion Triage Tool. It helps residents identify their digital challenges and needs. They will then receive a list of recommended local support services. They can the revisit their recommendations and track their progress.

Local organisations are invited to come forward to be part of the initiative. The online tool will be used by community support services to prescribe support for offline residents.
Local support services could include:
• local support in using digital devices
• guidance on accessing online services
• upskilling digital skills by finding classes and courses
