Colchester Museums Development Foundation (CMDF) is a registered charity and partner of Colchester Museums Service – the custodians of Colchester Castle, Hollytree’s Museum, the Natural History Museum, and nationally significant collections. The Foundation was set up in 2020 to support Colchester Museums to inspire and enrich the local community, through the preservation, exploration, and sharing of the city’s heritage in its widest sense. CMDF serves four objectives across the Museums and collections – to enhance access, inclusion, engagement with collections and research, and community collaboration. Since launching, the Foundation has raised nearly £60,000 in support of these objectives.
The Foundation currently has nine trustees and is seeking to recruit 2 more trustee positions. Colchester Museums and CMDF strive for diversity throughout the organisations and are seeking people with different life experiences to broaden thinking and improve representation in the work they do. The Foundation welcome applications from both graduates and those without a degree, as a university qualification is not a requirement for this role. The Foundation also welcomes applications from D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people, People of Colour, ethnically diverse communities, young people and people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. The Foundation are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience or expertise in the following areas:
- Business networks in Colchester
- Community groups in Colchester
- Education and young people
- Finance
- Sustainability and the environment
