Participate in a celebration of the life of a Colchester chess hero and see England’s greatest ever chess player in action the late Colchester Grandmaster Dr Jonathan Penrose OBE, 10 times British Chess Champion.
The opening ceremony for the Chess Challenge (a simultaneous exhibition by Grandmaster Michael Adams, 8 times British Chess Champion) will commence at approx 1.30pm and will include the formal opening of the Jonathan Penrose Chess Park: public chess tables in the City of Colchester by the Mercury Theatre.
The event celebrates past achievements, but also looks to the future as Colchester’s Ruqayyah Rida, 2 times British Chess Champion (Girls under 10), will play in the ‘simul’.
