Author talk with Brian Southall

Chelmsford Library is delighted to be hosting author Brian Southall, on Thursday 21 March at 7pm.  Brian will regale you with stories from his forty-year career in the music industry as told in his new book, Bull and Bush. With a background in journalism, his influence has extended far beyond the recording studio, to working with and becoming a colleague and friend to many industry greats, such as Kate Bush, Freddie Mercury, and the Sex Pistols.

Join us as we celebrate his remarkable career from the frontlines of journalism to the corridors of record labels and beyond.

Visit Eventbrite to buy your tickets,  £5 plus booking fee.

An exciting new award for Essex Libraries!

We’re delighted to announce that we have been awarded Library of Sanctuary status!

This is a national award that celebrates libraries that demonstrate hospitality, solidarity, and welcome to new arrivals to the UK.

The status recognises the work we’re doing to help recently arrived refugees integrate into the community, and find services that can support them and make them feel welcome.

Welcome back to the library app

We are thrilled to announce that the library app is back! After its hiatus, we invite you to dive back into the world of reading with your favourite books at your fingertips. Whether you’re a seasoned bookworm or just beginning your literary journey, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Welcome back, and happy reading!

Visit the website to download the app.

Opening today! A new sculptural art exhibition

We’re so excited to be hosting the wonderful artist Lata Upadhyaya this year, showing her new sculptural installation ‘Welcome to Essex’.

Enter our spring poetry competition

Join in with our exciting new competition starting on 25 March for kids and teenagers!

We’re working with Chelmsford Museum, and the theme of the competition is ‘protecting nature’, to fit with their new exhibition ‘Restless Brilliance: The story of J.A. Baker and The Peregrine’. Check out the exhibition.

All kids can enter one of our three categories: under 6, 7 to 12 and 13 to 18, and can take part until 20 April.

Find out more details and how to enter.

It’s the last few weeks of Booktrust Storytime!

Time is running out to vote for your favourite Booktrust Storytime book! It’s quick and easy to vote. Vote online.

Book of the Month

In our Book of the Month for March, Kate Mosse investigates why it is that so many women across a variety of fields, famous and successful in their day, have simply disappeared from history. She also catches up with the story of her great-grandmother Lily Watson, renowned at the time and today all but forgotten.

Essex Local Offer

The Essex Local Offer is a website that has information, support and things to do in Essex. It is for young people with SEND and their families.

We want to improve the Local Offer for young people.

We have a short, online survey for young people which will help us understand:

  •        what information they would like us to include on the website
  •        what type of content they like – for example video or wikis
  •        what they want to use the Local Offer for

This should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete – there are no wrong or right answers.

Please encourage young people to take part in the survey and help shape the Local Offer website.
