Unity Primary Academy are approaching the local community to consult on the possibility of developing and opening a Community Kitchen on site at the school in Greenstead, Colchester.

The proposal is to transform the old school kitchen into a Community Kitchen for inspirational food education. The community kitchen would benefit everyone, young and old –pupils, parents, and the wider community. The concept wants to offer a flexible teaching space and fully equipped kitchen with commercial catering equipment. The Community Kitchen will be accessed separately to the school allowing community access.

The community kitchen will be funded by the North East Essex Alliance Be Well Domain and we are delighted to be working in collaboration with Community360 & Colchester City Council to secure funding and means to operate the kitchen if successful. The aim will be that all Pupils visit and use the kitchen during the school day,  as well as offering a space for the community to come together to learn new skills and provide hot food for residents. Community access will be after school and will not impact the operations and functions of the school.

THE CONSULTATION:

Unity Primary Academy are approaching members of the community to understand how they may benefit from the kitchen facility and how they would like to use it. This will enable them to work with partners to develop a suitable design and ensure there is a variety of equipment available to cater for everyone’s needs.
