Colchester Festival of Rice and Spice – a free annual festival
The festival is an annual event organised by the Colchester Minority Ethnic Forum. The Colchester Festival of Rice and Spice is a free one-day festival bringing Colchester’s local communities together to celebrate who we are. It is built around the broad theme of rice and spice and underpinned by a commitment to diversity and equality.
The festival creates an opportunity and a platform for all local communities in Colchester to showcase and share their heritages through food, dance, music, performances, visual arts, traditional clothing and more. Our network of organisations represents a very wide range of local minority ethnic communities together with host community groups.
This festival is unique in that it is organised by local community volunteers for the people of Colchester with the primary objective being to celebrate our cultural differences, recognise our similarities and remove barriers that exist. These communities invite the people of Colchester and surrounding areas to join them in celebrating the rich diverse culture of our city.
