Jo Hammond was diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer at the age of 49. Following treatment she decided she wanted to fill the gap in provision with regards to weekly social support groups and peer support which had been so helpful in rebuilding her emotional and physical health and wellbeing. This is when LACE; Life After Cancer Essex was created.
After celebrating the 1st Anniversary of LACE, with the help and strategic support from Community 360, Jo formed a Community Interest Company (CIC) supporting anybody affected by cancer in Essex. C360 helped Jo complete the necessary paperwork and the resulting CIC status has enabled Jo to benefit from funding more easily enabling her to develop the group’s benefits.
LACE offers opportunities for sociable gatherings through a ‘walk and talk group’. The group provides the opportunity to be with others who have been through similar situations and ‘get it’ as well as providing support and encouragement of individual’s unique journeys.
