Winter Resilience

A Winter Resilience Steering Group, chaired by Community360, who co-delivers the project, brings together representatives from the public and voluntary sector to facilitate more action over the coming winter months.

Stay Safe, Well, Warm and Connected this Winter

Thanks to partnership working, funding and community spirit, this project provide advice and support through the One Colchester initiative.

You can access support from The One Colchester Community Hub, 4-6 Long Wyre Street.  We will be distributing winter packs to those affected by the cold weather, including families on low incomes, people living with respiratory conditions and long-term health conditions, via our partners and pop up sessions in the community.

Community360 and One Colchester partners are here to help you stay safe, warm, well and connected this winter. If you would like to find out more, please let us know how we can support you.

Winter Support
Visit us at the One Colchester Community Hub. Situated in Long Wyre Street, Colchester, The Hub offers a wealth of services, activities and support for the Colchester community.

A welcoming and warm space where you can access a wide range of activities, programs, services, social and wellbeing activities. The Hub hosts many different social groups throughout e week, including a Monday morning friendship group, a
board games group, men’s and women’s groups, a variety of textiles activities and more.

Anyone is welcome to drop-in for advice and signposting and practical support such as winter packs and slippers for those at risk of falls. Pick up a warm piece of clothing (subject to availability) or just to see a friendly face and enjoy a warm drink.

We are open every Saturday from 10am – 3pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and take part in a variety of activities including Zumba sessions, arts and crafts, table tennis and more. From Saturday 19th November we will also be offering free soup and a roll as part of our cold weather support.

Please reach out to us if you need help – if we can’t help directly, we will usually know someone who can.

Winter Packs
A dedicated supply of packs are held at the One Colchester hub, Long Wyre Street and will also be held at Colchester Hospital for staff to distribute to patients who would benefit from the packs when they are discharged.

The Winter Packs, include a guide to local support services ranging from heating schemes, clothing, basic refreshments and practical items, such as a torch, blanket, and first aid guides will be distributed to those identified as being in need by partnership members.

Community Transport
Our Community Transport scheme provides a door-to-door service to and from doctor, dental & hospital appointments, medical centres, shopping centres, and encourages visits to therapy, friends and relatives. In addition, we offer a range of hugely popular excursions offering the opportunity for members to meet new people, enjoy good health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation. For more information contact us by emailing ct@community360.org.uk

Walking for Wellness
Walking is fantastic to support good physical and mental wellbeing. The value of being out in nature, exercising and communicating with others has been proven, especially in the colder and darker winter months.

We offer a series of Finding Your Feet® and Walking for Wellness walks offering supported walks that aim to meet the needs of those who may have previously felt less motivated or confident to attend. It is a wonderful way to meet new people and improve your overall health and wellbeing. We are facilitating walks in both Colchester and Braintree district so please call us on 01206 505250 for further information.
