The One Colchester Partnership have secured £110,000 from the North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group to continue and expand the Colchester Communities Can Project which launched earlier this year.
While many people will be preparing to enjoy the festive period, The One Colchester Partnership
have been developing plans to support those who could be affected by the winter weather.
The scheme which supports the aims of the Livewell Colchester campaign will deliver a
schedule of activities involving a whole range of partner agencies based in the One Colchester
Shop and will also include a series of community outreach events to address social isolation,
transport services for those unable to access public transport, winter preparedness and improve
wellbeing for residents beginning in October. The One Colchester Shop is open from Monday
to Friday 10am to 3pm and is based in Unit 81 Culver Street East for residents to find out about
volunteering, take part in social groups and learn about community services.
In the Winter of 2017-18, under the banner of ‘Colchester Communities Can…’ the partnership
- Established the One Colchester pop up shop in Culver Street East, Colchester Town Centre,
led by volunteers and community leaders, who manned and co-ordinated activities in the
shop five days a week. The shop received 869 visitors between mid-January and end of April
- Supplied 183 Winter Warmth packs containing vital resources to stay warm, free warm
clothing obtained through donations and connecting people to local support services
- Conducted outreach in five locations across the Borough which were identified as at risk
during the winter period (i.e. fuel poverty). The project reached 1209 households.
