Breathe Easy Colchester, the British Lung Foundation Support Network is urging anyone with breathing problems to come along to their monthly support meet ups.

The support group was set up in Colchester over 20 years ago and is chaired by John Price. Up to 40 plus members now meet up every third Friday at the St. Johns and Highwoods Community Centre in Colchester.

John Price, Chair of Breathe Easy Colchester said: “There are over 40 different types of lung disease and one in five people will be affected by lung disease.” He added: “Our groups aim is to support anyone who has just been diagnosed with a lung condition or living with ongoing lung and breathing problems. I know too well as a sufferer of Asthma from a child and now living with COPD how worrying and isolated you can feel.”

“The group provides support, friendship and beneficial activities to anyone affected by lung conditions, including COPD, Asthma and cancer.” Said John. “Friends and family are welcome too; it is hard sometimes for loved ones and people who are close to fully understand what we are going through and it is also beneficial for them to learn more about living with a lung condition.”

“What I have found over the years is that as a group we totally understand what each other is going through, many friendships have been made which helps to reduce the isolation felt when you are suffering with long term health problems.”

Breathe Easy meetings are very informal and members are also eligible to attend special exercise classes and singing for lung health. The group is run by people living with lung disease and supported by local specialist health professionals.

Tracy Rudling, CEO at Community360 said: “When you’re dealing with something difficult, it’s not always easy to reach out for help. But, when you find the right people, resources and coping strategies to get you through—sharing can make a real difference in your life. We are delighted to be able to support John and the Breathe Easy Group and urge anyone with lung conditions to get in touch with such a valuable support network.”

Community360 and Breathe Easy will be hosting a winter roadshow for the COPD Group at St. Johns and Highwoods Community Centre on Friday 21st February from 10.30am – 12.30pm.

The group meets on the third Friday morning of each month from 10.30am – 12.30pm at St. Johns and Highwoods Community Centre, Colchester Contact John Price on 01206 303707 or email jprice73@hotmail.com www.lunguk.org/colchester for further information
