On the 25th May, new privacy laws will be coming into effect in the United Kingdom. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to all organisations who hold personal data about you. This could be your name or address. It may also include any other data that can be used to identify you, such as details about an employer, your date of birth or your email address.
GDPR gives everyone the right to decide how they want to be contacted by organisations and how their data is used. It also ensures that organisations put in place safe and secure ways to hold your personal data so that your privacy is respected and information is kept up to date.
The law gives people the option to easily access information held by organisations and to ask for changes.
