One Colchester Hub
The One Colchester Hub offers advice and signposting to a range of services supporting health and wellbeing. Staff and volunteers offer a friendly welcome for anyone who is not sure where to turn to for help with a range of issues.
Community360 also runs its own projects at the Hub, such as social groups and outings, weight management support and Time Bank meetings encouraging individuals to exchange skills. The I-Tea drop in sessions take place twice a week and offer help to anyone who has a problem with their smartphone, tablet or laptop. There are a regular group of willing volunteers ready to offer free one-to-one tech support and that all-important cuppa.
Other agencies use the Hub for drop-in sessions, so that people can access specialist help, for example with welfare benefits, mental health or homelessness. Many other charities attend for one-off events to showcase what they offer or join forces for special action days, such as the successful Dementia Action Alliance day. Community groups also use the space to meet up and foster mutual support.
Practical support includes free coats and warm clothing for anyone in need and over the winter, free winter packs are handed out to help to keep people warm and well during the cold weather. The Hub is also a donation point for the Hygiene Bank, collecting sanitary products to help with period poverty in local schools. We also collect for the Uniform Exchange, Tots2Teens and Precious Bundles. Anyone at risk of falls can come in and exchange their old slippers for a free brand new pair through our Slipper Exchange.
You can come in and find out about volunteering opportunities in your area – no matter how much time you have or whatever your circumstances, you can make a difference to your community.
Lion Walk Shopping Centre generously supports the One Colchester Hub, which can be found at 81 Culver Street East, Colchester CO1 1LF near Primark, opposite St Helena Hospice shop. The Hub is open from 10.00am until 3.00pm Monday to Friday.
