For 2023 Guide Dogs want to offer free sight loss awareness training to community-based organisations and services.
Guide Dogs want guiding someone with a visual impairment to be like first aid and instil confidence in the community to approach someone with sight loss and offer your support.
Sighted guiding training
This training would enhance the overall experience for your visually impaired service users/ community residents.
- Delivered face to face
- Sessions range from 2-3 hours with a capacity of 24 participants, these can be delivered to staff and/or volunteers
- Attendees will learn how to sighted guide an individual in and around your settings to ensure visually impaired people have a positive experience and engage fully with the amenities
- Tailored training to meet the bespoke setup of your vicinity, such as entrances, meeting rooms, toilets etc
One hour mini awareness sessions
- Delivered virtually
- These sessions focus more generically around sight loss and guiding hints and tips
